The London Land Commission has published a register of publicly owned land, including that owned by boroughs, the police, transport agencies, the NHS, the military and government departments. The register reveals that 25% of London is owned by the public sector, a figure which rises to 40% in some boroughs. The land identified comprises 40,000 sites, with space for at least 130,000 homes. Richard Blakeway, London’s deputy Mayor for Housing stated this figure is a ‘starting point’ that he expects to go up.

The register is currently being analysed by City Hall to further unlock and speed up the redevelopment of this land.
